How I run a $4M trades business from another country

My reticulation business trades around $4M a year in Perth. I live across the Tasman, in New Zealand. I'm not on the tools, I'm not doing the quotes, and I'm not the one answering the phone. The business runs — jobs booked, crews dispatched, invoices out, reviews coming in — whether I'm watching or not.

That sentence sounds like a course-seller's pitch, which is exactly why I want to break down the actual machinery. None of it is magic, and almost all of it is copyable by any established trades business.

1. The work is documented, not remembered

Every core process — how a job gets booked, how a quote goes out, how a complaint gets handled — is written down as a simple procedure the team can follow without asking me. When the answer lives in a document instead of my head, I stop being the bottleneck. That was the hardest habit to build, and the one everything else depends on.

The biggest quiet win: hundreds of contract work orders a month used to be hand-keyed into our job system by our office manager, one by one.
